General Parameters

The first page of the BIMpak Settings window presents general parameters that are used in various BIMpak functions and so must be defined. The input values are just the family parameters that correspond to the descriptions.

  • Component Type - This is the most used parameter. It is the parameter that holds the type of component the family is, such as “connection” or “embed.” Many functions in BIMpak need this parameter defined. It’s used in the Marks Manager to determine the type of component. It’s used in Copy Specialty Equipment along with the rules set on the Copy Specialty Equipment Settings window to determine if a part should be copied. It’s used in the Construct Assembly function along with the rules on the Connections Settings window to find connections that can be disassembled to find components to include in the assembly. The default parameter name is MANUFACTURE_COMPONENT.

  • Component BOM (Sheet) - This parameter holds the Mark Number or name for the piece that it is in. This one is used specifically for BOMs and schedules related to a single sheet or piece. It is used in multiple functions. When creating schedules in Apply Layout the name of the assembly is stored here. When running the Update Selected BOM (Sheet) function this parameter is used to write in the Control Number of the structural framework element or assembly. The default parameter name is CONSTRUCTION_PRODUCT_HOST.

  • Component BOM (Project) - This parameter holds the Mark Number or name for the piece that it is in. This one is used specifically for BOMs and schedules related to the entire project. It is used in multiple functions. When creating schedules in Apply Layout the name of the assembly is stored here. When running the Update Selected BOM (Project) function this parameter is used to write in the Control Number of the structural framework element or assembly. The default parameter name is BOM_PRODUCT_HOST.

  • Precast Type - This parameter should hold the type of precast element. It is used in the Insert Centroid function for finding all pieces to include by checking this against the element’s Component BOM (Sheet) parameter. In the Construct Assembly function it is used to determine the precast type by searching for strings like “wall” and “column.” The default parameter name is CONSTRUCTION_PRODUCT.

  • Description - This parameter should hold values describing what the element is. Specifically, it is checked for Construct Assembly and searched for values like “wall” and “column.” The default parameter name is IDENTITY_DESCRIPTION.

  • Mark Number - This parameter should hold the mark number for an element. This gets used in many BIMpak tools. It is used for the Marks Manager and Compare Marks, Dimension Family will use it to check for items to dimension that have the same mark number. The Populate Sheet Properties tool uses it to set quantities. It is used in Construct Assembly for reading the mark number of the structural element to write it into the Assembly Mark Number. For both Update Selected BOM (Project) and Update Selected BOM (Sheet) the value in this parameter is read to then be written into the structural element’s components' Component BOM parameter. The default parameter name is CONTROL_MARK.

  • Control Number - This parameter holds the value for the element’s control number. It is used in the Marks Manager and the Verify Mark tool for comparing structural framing elements. The Populate Sheet Properties tool uses it to set quantities. It is also used for Assign Control Numbers to find the parameter to be incremented. The default parameter name is CONTROL_NUMBER.

  • Weight - This parameter holds the weight of the element. This is used in Populate Sheet Properties to update weights. It is used in Construct Assembly to read the weight from the structural framing element and write it into the assembly’s weight parameter. The default parameter name is WEIGHT_PER_UNIT.

  • Assembly Mark Number - This is used in Construct Assembly for writing the structural framing element’s mark number into the assembly. The default parameter name is ASSEMBLY_MARK_NUMBER.

  • Assembly Control Number - This is used in Construct Assembly for writing the structural framing element’s control number in the assembly. The default parameter name is ASSEMBLY_CONTROL_NO.
