Insert Centroid

Description

This tool computes the centroid of the selected structural framing elements. It works on multiple selected elements and will place a CENTROID family for each selection. The project must have a CENTROID family loaded into the model, if one is not loaded an ‘Unable to find Centroid symbol in model’ error will be given. The computed centroid is the geometric centroid, not the center of mass. Varying material densities will be ignored.

When computing the centroid for a given centroid the following is taken into account: if the selection is a/an…

• Assembly: Each element in the assembly whose material name contains ‘CONCRETE’ will be accounted for when computing the centroid.

• Structural Framing Element: Each element intersecting the selected element whose Precast Type parameter is equal to the Component BOM (Sheet) parameter of the selected element will be accounted for when computing the centroid. The values for the Precast Type and Component BOM (Sheet) parameters are entered in the General Parameters. The default values are shown below:
