Reinforcement

Reinforcing Cage Type

Select a reinforcing cage type that is appropriate for your pipe cross section (see the following figure for layout and dimension notation).  All layout types share a common set of parameters, as shown in Figure 3-4.

Concrete Covers

Clear concrete cover over circumferential reinforcing.

Reinforcing Diameters

Diameter of wire or bar used for reinforcement.  This is used to estimate depth to reinforcing (d).

Maximum Reinforcing Spacing

Maximum center-to-center spacing of main reinforcement.

Elliptical cages have an additional input parameter as follows:

Angle of Elliptical Cage Misorientation

Angle of rotation about the center of the pipe to account for misplacement of the invert.

Stirrups

Stirrup Design

If the radial tension of diagonal tension strength of the pipe is inadequate for resisting the applied loads, Eriksson Pipe will automatically activate a routine to design stirrups, and you will have access to the Stirrup Design input window.  Here you can input a parameter called ‘Developable Stirrup Yield Stress’.  Users should be aware that some concrete producers use bent sections of smooth cold  drawn wire for stirrup reinforcement that do not provide sufficient anchorage to  develop the full yield strength of the wire.
