Horizontal (Interface) Shear

LRFD
For composite sections under LRFD, horizontal shear steel requirements are covered in section
5.8.4/5.7.4, Interface Shear Transfer – Shear Friction. When computing the required amount of shear
steel, Eriksson Girder makes the following assumptions:

• The top surface of the precast beam is assumed to be clean and free of laitance.
• The surface is intentionally roughened to an amplitude of 0.25 in.
• Normal weight concrete is used.
Standard Specifications
The results for both the intentionally roughened case and the non-intentionally roughened case are
included in the results.
