Design Manager Overview

The Design Manager contains a grid that lists all parts in the model with their associated design files and other important information for organization and sorting to easily perform all Sync functions on any number of selected parts. Any parts selected in the model will be highlighted in the Design Manager grid and vice versa. Interacting with parts in the Design Manager can be done with the toolbar which provides access to all Sync operations or through the grid context menu to edit design file associations.

Toolbar

The toolbar gives access to all of the functions in Sync.

Design

The Design section of the toolbar allows editing of design file associations.

  • New is used to create a file using the properties of a selected part and associate the resulting design file with all selected parts. If multiple parts are selected, all must be of the same type, and the properties of the last one will be used to create the file.

  • Open is used to associate an existing design file with all selected parts. All parts must be of the same type. The design file will not be edited.

  • Clear is used to remove an association between the selected parts and their corresponding design files. The files will not be deleted or edited.

Tools

The Tools section of the toolbar gives access to all of Sync’s functions.

  • Design Parts is used for linking parts to design files and opening the files in the appropriate design software. The Design Part window will be opened so that parts can be selected in the Design Manager and the Design Part window will be updated accordingly.

  • Reinforce Parts is used for loading reinforcement from design files into the selected parts. The Reinforce Part window will be opened so that parts can be selected in the Design Manager and the Reinforce Part window will be updated accordingly.

  • Add Lifters is used for reading lifter information from design files and placing lifters into the model. The Add Lifters window will be opened so that parts can be selected in the Design Manager and the Add Lifters window will be updated.

  • Edit Cross Section is used to edit the cross section properties of selected parts. The Edit Cross Section window will be opened so that parts can be selected in the Design Manager and the Edit Cross Section window will be updated.

  • Settings opens the Eriksson Sync Settings window which remains open and on top until closed.

  • Show Control Numbers will show the Control # column in the grid. Depending on the number of parts in the model this process could take some time to pull all control numbers from the model.

Utilities

The Utilities section provides functions for the Design Manager.

  • Refresh will update the grid with all information from the model and any changes made to design file associations outside of the Design Manager.

  • Check Keep window on top to force the Design Manager to stay on top of other windows. If not checked the Design Manager window might go behind Tekla Structures when parts are selected in the grid.

Context Menu

The grid context menu is used to associate design files with selected parts from the model and grid. It can be accessed by right-clicking on any number of rows in the grid. While multiple rows in the grid can be selected design files can only be set if all of the parts are of the same type.

  • New is used to create a new file using the properties of the selected part and associate the new design file to all selected parts. This operates just like the New toolbar button.

  • Open is used to associate an existing design file with all selected parts. This operates just like the Open toolbar button.

  • Clear is used to remove the association between the selected parts and their corresponding design files. This operates just like the Clear toolbar button.

  • Existing shows a list of all design files already associated with parts of the same type as the selected parts. For example, if a wall is selected then the Existing sub-menu will show a list of all Eriksson Wall files that are already associated with walls in the model. Clicking on the file name will set the design file to the selected parts without modifying the file.

Design Column Drop Down

If one part is selected in the grid then a drop down box in the Design column can be used to set the design file. The drop down box will contain a list of files already associated with types of that part as well as New, Open, and Clear options that function the same as the toolbar buttons and the grid context menu items.
