Edit Section Properties
Name
Descriptive name of section. Up to 20 standard characters, any combination of a-z, A-Z, 0-9, or the underscore character (‘_’).
Type
Displays the girder type. Girders are classified by shape in this dialog box for the purpose of plotting the girder and strand pattern only. Girder types are classified separately for distribution factor computation in the Geometry dialog box.
Save to Library
Click this button to view a list of the beam section files stored on your hard drive. To copy the contents of a desired section to the fields of the Section Properties dialog box, double-click it, or highlight it and click OK. Note that all values currently on this screen will be over-written by the values read in from the section file.
CG
Distance from the center of gravity of the section to the extreme bottom fiber.
Area
Net area of the cross section.
Ixx
Moment of inertia about the horizontal axis of the section.
Iyy
Moment of inertia about the vertical axis of the section.
J
St. Venant’s torsional inertia. Used in live load distribution factor calculation for certain framing types per the LRFD Spec. For cases in the LRFD Spec where it is not needed or if the design is per the Standard Spec, then the default value of 1 should be preserved.
bwo
The out-to-out distance between the tops of the webs of a precast section. If a section has only one web, then bwo is the width of the web at the top of the beam. If, however, a section has two webs, then it is the distance between the outer edge of one web and the outer edge of the other at the top of the beam. Used in application of the lever rule for live load distribution calculation.
V/S
The ratio of the volume of the girder to the surface of the girder, which is computed by dividing the area of the section by its perimeter. Used in the time dependent prestress loss calculations.
Top Flange
The width of top flange.
