Strand Library

The Strand Library is a specialized software library used in the design of prestressed strands for bridge girders. It provides a structured way to manage and configure strands based on various properties that influence the structural behavior of prestressed concrete girders. This document will guide you through accessing, managing, and manipulating strand data using the Strand Library.

Library Location

The Strand Library is stored as a file in a specified directory on your PC. Use library location to determine where the library is saved.

Strands

Add

You can add a new strand configuration to the library.

Remove

Remove an existing strand from the library.

Import

You can import strands from an external file to your local library.

Export

To share or back up strands, you can export them.

Strand Properties

Each strand in the library has a set of properties that are used to define its behavior in bridge girder design. These include:

Strand Name

A unique identifier for the strand. This should be descriptive enough to easily recognize the strand type and its properties (e.g., "LowRelax_270ksi").

Tensile Strength (fpu)

The ultimate tensile strength of the strand, denoted as fpu. This value is typically provided in ksi. Common tensile strengths include 250 ksi, 270 ksi, etc.

Modulus of Elasticity (Eps)

The modulus of elasticity, denoted as Eps, reflects the stiffness of the strand material. This value affects how the strand elongates under tension. The modulus of elasticity is typically expressed in ksi.

Strand Type

Specifies whether the strand is Low Relaxation or Stress Relieved. This property affects the long-term performance of the strand.
