Design Part is used to associate design files with parts in the model and to open the files in the appropriate design software. Any number of parts can be selected. Selected parts can be associated with existing design files or new files can be created. Concrete extents and reinforcement can be pulled from the model to create the design file.

Associated Design File

If a file is already associated with the selected parts then the file name will be shown. Hovering over the file name will show the full path to the file. If multiple files are associated with the selected parts then the path text will display “Multiple Designs Selected.” If no design file is associated with the selected parts then the path text will display “No Design Selected.”

Click the button to the right of the Path text to open a file select dialog box. The type of Eriksson Project Files that can be created are determined by the type of parts selected in the model. For example, if a wall is selected in the model then only an Eriksson Wall File (.ewf) can be associated with it.

A new design file can be created or an existing design file can be associated with the selected part.

Create New Design File

Press the button to the right of the path text to open the file select dialog box. The Eriksson Project File type will be displayed. Navigate to the folder where the file should be created. Type in the name of the file in the File name box. Then, click Save.

The design file will not be created on disk or associated with the parts until the Run button is clicked.

Click the Settings button to change what elements of the part should be included in the design. Then, click the Run button. The design file will be created on disk and then opened in the appropriate design software if installed.

Use Existing Design File

Open the file select dialog box. Navigate to the location of the appropriate design file. Click Save to select the file.

The design file will not be associated with the parts until the Run button is clicked.

Click the Settings button to change what elements of the part should be included in the design.

Check “Modify associated design file(s)” to write the selected elements of the part to the design file.

Uncheck “Modify associated design files(s)” to associate the selected parts and open them in the design software without modifying the design files. One reason to do this would be to use the design file as a seed file for checking designs of various parts with the same design criteria.

Settings

Design Part includes settings about what information should be passed from the Revit part to the Eriksson Software design file. The settings control if, and how, to pull over the concrete extents and reinforcement.

For more information, go to the Design Part Settings page.

Run

Run must be clicked to make the association between the selected parts and design files. A progress bar will appear at the bottom of the Design Part window with information about the status of the design process with a success or failure message when the operation is complete.

The files will be opened in the appropriate Eriksson design software if installed.

Messages, Warnings and Errors

After Sync is done running Design Part the lower part of the window will show status messages for the operation as well as any warnings or errors.
