Dapped end analysis is done following PCI follows the procedure published in the PCI Design Handbook Section 5.5.3. Limitations on this methodology recommended The recommended limits listed in that article are not checked and the engineer should verify the that this methodology is valid. When performing the calculations contained within section Section 5.5.3 the following assumptions are made:

  • Vu is reduced by the number of bearing points defined by the user. For instance, a Double T with two bearing points will reduce the Vu by 2 and results will be reported as the requirement per bearing point.

  • The shear span (defined as ‘a’ in PCI) assumed assumes the load is located at the center of the dapnib.

  • The resistance factor is set internally to 0.75 and cannot be edited by the user.

  • The shear-friction coefficient, 𝜇, is set internally to 1.4 and cannot be edited by the user. Note that the software still computes the effective shear coefficient as defined in PCI 5.5.3.2.

  • All reinforcement covers are assumed to be 1 inch.

  • Plate The bearing plate is assumed to be a ½ inch thick.

  • Only supports the following geometry types are supported: T beams, spandrels, inverted Ts, rectangular sections, and I Beams.

If the member is a thin webbed member, Vc is reduced with 2H of the support. When Vc is reduced, a new Vs required is computed.
